Two character counts are always visible side by side: characters with spaces and characters without spaces. This matters because some platforms, such as X (Twitter) and Google Ads, count spaces in their limits while others do not.
What do sentence and paragraph counts tell you?
The sentence count shows how many complete sentences your text contains. The paragraph count tracks how many distinct blocks of text are present. Both help you check structure at a glance, especially for blog posts and essays with minimum section requirements.

How is reading time calculated?
The tool calculates reading time by dividing your word count by a words-per-minute reading speed. The default is 200 words per minute, which reflects a comfortable adult reading pace. A Reading Pace selector lets you choose Slow (150 wpm), Medium (200 wpm), or Fast (250 wpm) depending on your audience or your own typical speed.
How is speaking time calculated?
Speaking time estimates how long it would take to deliver the text out loud, whether for a speech, a podcast script, a YouTube video, or a presentation. The Speaking Pace selector offers three settings: Slow (110 wpm) for formal presentations, Normal (130 wpm) for most spoken contexts, and Fast (160 wpm) for casual conversational delivery.
What is the Reading Time Progress Bar?
A Reading Progress Bar appears alongside the reading time estimate. The bar shows progress toward a 10-minute reading benchmark, giving a quick visual sense of whether the piece reads as brief or long. It is a reference point, not a target.

What is the SMOG Index?
SMOG stands for Simple Measure of Gobbledygook. It is the readability formula most commonly used for health communications and patient-education materials, because it is calibrated to predict whether a real patient, not just a general reader, can understand a document. It is based on polysyllabic word density across 30 sentences. If you write for government agencies, health systems, or plain-language compliance, SMOG is the score to prioritize.
What is Lexical Density?
Lexical density shows unique words as a percentage of total words. Higher lexical density means more information-dense writing. A blog post typically has lower lexical density than an academic paper, because conversational writing repeats common words more often.
What is the Reading Level badge?

What is the Letter Frequency Counter?
The Letter Frequency Counter is in the Advanced Stats tab, directly below the Emoji Counter. It breaks your text down letter by letter and shows two things: a headline stat identifying the most common letter in your current text, and a ranked breakdown of the top 10 letters with their exact counts. In most English text the letter "e" appears most often — this tool confirms that for your specific text and shows the full frequency ranking alongside it. The feature is useful for cryptography analysis, word-game planning such as Scrabble or Wordle tile selection, and linguistics research where character-distribution data is needed.

How does passive voice detection work?
The tool scans every sentence for passive voice constructions and shows three things: the total count of passive sentences found, the passive voice ratio, and up to 10 example sentences so you can see exactly which ones to review. What do transition word counts show?
Transition words are connecting words such as "however," "therefore," "in addition," and "as a result." What is the SEO Content Score?
The SEO Content Score is a single green, yellow, or red signal based on keyword density. It flags likely over-optimization when any keyword appears above approximately 5 percent of total word count. It is a quick sanity check, not a full SEO audit. Treat it as a first pass rather than a final verdict on whether your content will rank.
What does the Word Frequency Chart show?

AI models such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini divide text into chunks called tokens rather than reading it word by word. One token equals roughly 0.75 words in English. Every AI model has a maximum context window, which is the total number of tokens it can hold in a single conversation. If your text exceeds that limit, the model starts forgetting the earlier parts of the conversation.
How does the AI Token Counter work?
The AI Token Counter estimates how many tokens your current text will use when submitted to an AI model. The tool calculates this locally using the standard 1.33-tokens-per-word approximation, with no text ever sent to any AI provider.

How does Find and Replace work?
Type any word or phrase into the Find field and a live match count shows how many times that term appears in your text. Replace Next fixes one match at a time, moving forward through the text. Replace All updates every instance at once. A Case-Sensitive toggle lets you match exact capitalization when needed.
How does the side-by-side text comparison work?
The Text Comparison tab provides two separate input boxes, one for each version of your text. After entering both, the tool shows: the word count of each version separately, the character difference between them, words shared by both texts, and words unique to each version. This helps editors quickly see how much vocabulary changed between drafts.
Text Comparison is a vocabulary-overlap check between two texts you already have. It is not a plagiarism checker and does not check your text against the internet or any external database.
How do I analyze a web page without copying and pasting it?
The "Load from URL" button below the text box opens a modal. Paste the address of any public web page and press "Fetch Text." The tool retrieves the page, extracts only its readable content, drops that text into the analysis box, and runs the full analysis. A status line shows the character count loaded and confirms that navigation menus, ads, and surrounding page elements were removed.
How does the URL fetch work?
The fetch runs through a purpose-built endpoint on this site's own server, not a third-party scraping service. The server sends a request to the target web page, strips scripts, navigation, ads, and forms from the returned HTML, and passes only the clean readable text back to your browser. This server-side approach reaches pages that browser-based tools cannot, because it bypasses the security restrictions browsers apply to cross-site requests.
What content will the fetch not retrieve, and why?
Pages that rely on JavaScript to build their content after the initial page load will not return usable text. This includes single-page applications built with React, Vue, or Angular, where the server sends a near-empty HTML shell and JavaScript fills the content in the browser. When this happens, the tool shows a clear message and suggests copying and pasting the text manually instead. The tool never shows a broken result or fails silently.
Whether a page can be fetched depends entirely on how that site is built, not on this tool. A WordPress blog post fetches cleanly. A React single-page application will not. This is the same distinction search engine crawlers face.
What are the limits of the URL fetch tool?
- One public page at a time — this is not a bulk import tool.
- Only standard public http and https addresses are accepted.
- Pages that take longer than 25 seconds to respond will time out with a plain explanation rather than hanging indefinitely.

How does Voice Input work?
Voice Input uses the speech recognition feature built into your browser. No external service, no API key, no sign-up, and no cost. Click the Voice Input button to start. Your words appear at the current cursor position rather than at the end of the text, so you can drop new content into the middle of an existing draft.
What feedback does Voice Input give while running?
A live status line shows whether the tool is actively listening, waiting, or has stopped. An interim transcript preview lets you see your words before the tool confirms and adds them. Clear error messages appear if microphone permission is denied, no microphone is found, or no speech is detected.
Does Voice Input record audio at the same time?
Yes. While Voice Input is running, the browser also records the microphone audio locally. You do not need to do anything extra to save it. The recording becomes available for download when you stop — see Downloadable and Shareable Audio below for details.
How does Read Aloud work?
Read Aloud uses the text-to-speech voices built into your browser and operating system. No external API, no cost, no sign-up. Click the Read Aloud button and the tool begins reading from the start, with voices ranked so the most natural-sounding option on your device appears first.
What controls are available during playback?
- Speed: Slow, Normal, or Fast.
- Tone and Pitch: Deep, Natural, or Bright.
- Pause, Resume, and Stop: pause and pick up where you left off, or stop entirely.
Why should I proofread by listening?
Reading silently allows the eye to fill in expected words and skip over errors. Hearing text read aloud forces the brain to process every word individually, which makes awkward phrasing, missing words, repeated words, and run-on sentences much easier to notice. This is a well-established editing technique used by professional writers and editors.
How do I download an audio file from this tool?
There are two paths to a downloadable audio file, depending on which feature you used.
- If you used Voice Input: the tool offers the recording as a download in three formats: WAV (widest compatibility), WebM (smaller file size), or OGG (open format). If your browser cannot encode OGG, that option is clearly labeled as unavailable. You will never encounter a broken download.
- If you only used Read Aloud: the Download Audio button captures the spoken narration itself, using your browser's own tab-audio-sharing permission. You will see a browser prompt asking you to share audio from this tab. Select the current tab and enable "share tab audio." This option currently works in Chrome and Edge.
Can I share the audio file directly?
Yes. A Share Audio button lets you share the downloaded audio file directly from your browser using the Web Share API, on devices and browsers that support file sharing. On desktop Chrome and Edge, this opens your system share menu. On Android, it opens your standard share sheet.
Why is downloadable audio different from other free tools?
Most free text-to-speech tools either do not let you download the audio at all, or require you to sign up for a paid cloud service such as Google Cloud TTS, Amazon Polly, or ElevenLabs to get a file. This tool produces a downloadable audio file entirely within your browser. No API key. No paid account. No text sent to any external service.
How does the draft autosave work?

Is the exported file the only copy of my analysis?
Yes. Because all analysis runs locally in your browser, there is no server-side history. When you close the tab, the analysis results are gone unless you exported them. Downloading the report is how you keep a permanent record of your results.
